AADA is the only organization in Chaffee County that provides a safe and confidential place for victims to receive 24-hour crisis assistance, counseling & safe housing. AADA is funded entirely by Federal, State and foundation grants, fundraisers and private donations.

“I was a victim of domestic violence for 18 years. I was beaten and sexually violated repeatedly by the man I called my husband. I had no self esteem and no one to turn to. I was going to die if I didn’t leave soon, and I knew it. I decided after four hours of torture, and being locked in my bedroom, that this was to be my last beating. He went to work the next morning and that was my chance. I grabbed the kids and what I could, and drove for four hours to Salida. I rented an apartment, bought the local paper and found an ad for the Alliance Against Domestic Abuse. I called and they invited us to come over. My children and I came to a place where we were welcomed and were allowed to express their feelings about what they witnessed. I was treated with respect and my healing could begin. Through their support groups, peer counseling and referrals, AADA has given me and my children tools for living and supported us throughout our emotions and life trials. My children finally feel safe and we have a new, wonderful life. Thank you AADA, I couldn’t have done it without you!”
