AADA Fundraisers
AADA hosts two annual fundraisers; the Crest Crank, now in its 12th year, and Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy, in its 25th year. AADA is funded entirely by Federal, State and foundation grants, local agencies, fundraisers and private donations.
Crest Crank
The Crest Crank Fundraiser is an annual one-day mountain biking event that raises funds for AADA through business sponsorships of the event and participant pledge collections. In preparation for Crest Crank, local businesses are solicited for either monetary or prize donations. All donors who contribute above a pre-determined minimum amount are event sponsors and all below that threshold are donors. Event posters and t-shirts with sponsor logos and event information are produced and distributed throughout Chafee County as well as mailed to Colorado bike shops and bike clubs. Participants in the event are asked to either contribute a minimum amount for a registration fee or collect pledges totaling more than the registration fee. Donated prizes are offered as incentives for participants to collect the most pledges.
On the day of the event participants arrive at Chipeta Park in Poncha Springs, Colorado and turn in their pledges or registration fees, receive a rider goody bag that consists of donated mountain biking products and an event t-shirt, have their bicycles inspected for safety, and take a shuttle to the top of Monarch Pass to begin the ride on the Monarch Crest Trail. Riders traverse the 20+ mile trail and conclude their ride back at Chipeta Park, where a post-ride BBQ awaits them. During the BBQ, riders have the opportunity to win donated raffle prizes and a cruiser bike donated by a local bike shop is awarded to the participant that raised the most pledges.
The Crest Crank usually raises around $5,000 for AADA. Money donated to Crest Crank goes toward paying for all event-related expenses and then toward several agency budget items each year.
Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy

The Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy is AADA’s longest standing fundraiser. 2010 was the 25th annual Chocolate Lover’s event. Festivities include wine tasting, chocolate and appetizer sampling, silent auction, live music, and a speech from a former client of AADA. Wine is donated by a local liquor store, as are all the chocolate and appetizers. Businesses are solicited to participate by sponsoring a table with 150 samples each of chocolate and appetizers. They decorate and are available at their table. Throughout the evening, attendees vote on each table in addition to judges who are community leaders. From those votes, tables win one of two awards: Best Table voted on by the judges based on originality, presentation, creativity, and taste; and People’s Choice in which the attendees decide which was their favorite. The Best Table winner receives a traveling plaque recognizing their business for their excellent food in addition to their community support of our agency. Local businesses also donate all of the products for the silent auction.
All of AADA’s Board members and staff participate in this event through food contributions, time, decorating, public speaking, ticket sales, and various other tasks. This event has been held in Buena Vista for the past 3 years and raises approximately $4,000 for AADA.
